Letter Writing: A Lost Joy

How long has it been since you wrote a letter? I mean a letter on paper with a pen, which was then mailed in an envelope bearing a stamp. Perhaps it was recently, but more than likely, it’s been a while. E-mail has taken over for much of today’s communication.
How about a few memories: Think of what it was like to recieve a letter or birthday card in the mail when you were a kid. I remember that my Dad’s Aunt Emma always remembered our birthdays. A card with two one-dollar bills tucked inside arrived on our birthday. What a thrill!
When I recieve a letter now I read it, I re-read it, I share it, I cherish it. Then I file it. Seldom do I toss it away… instead I file it — perhpas not technically “filed” according to a person’s name or other information, but I tuck it away so I can find it again sometime.
When I write a leter, which is , hmmmm, sometwhat frequently, it give me plenty of time to think about the person who will recieve it and to whom I am writing. I choose the paper with them in mind, I write with them in mind, I post it with a commemorative stamp (which I always request at the post office), and I send it off, hoping that it will brighten thier day.
Think back, again, the time when receiving a letter was personal and special. Rekindle the lost joy — Write a letter to someone today!
Peace,
Ann
