32 Years of Marriage, plus one day

I will now pick up my account of our life, with all its bumps in the road, mostly bumps by the name of Children !  But, please understand we wouldn’t want it any other way - bumps in the road are fun!

After the sadness of two miscarried babies we joyfully welcomed a new daughter, now referred to as Teenage Daughter, then 2.5 years later, a son, now known as Teenage Son. It was around this time that we began homeschooling some of our children.

These two little children became used to attending high school sports games, plays and concerts, and more. They got used to lots of teenage friends over our house for Red Sox and Patriots games. It was fun for other teenagers to interact with them, as many had no younger siblings at home. In this process of interacting with lots of older kids, they became well rounded and exposed to lots of things — mostly good.

One way in which thier childhood was different from the older kids was that the older kids introduced things like pop music, movies and the dreaded junk food to the house. All this we have had to learn to moderate and (yikes) control! It is very easy to lose control of your household to teenagers.

More bumps in the road came with a grandchild born when our child was just shy of 19; another intestinal surgery; and then a joyous stretch, daughter’s marriage and a new son-in-law, and our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grandchildren.

And then between our 3rd and 4th grandchild, SURPRISE, we found we were expecting another child.  Active Daughter was born nearly 4 years ago, when dear (young) Mom (me) was 46!  When we discovered the news, the first thing I thought of was Mother Theresa of Calcutta’s saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”

Now, we could not consider ife without Active Daughter and all our children and grandchildren. Yes, life has given us bumps in the road, and on the knee, and in the head, but all has led to this — 32 years of wedded “bliss”.

Peace be with you, and Please pray for all marriages, especially Christian marriages, as marriage and family are the foundation of our society, country and world!

Ann

    Hi Ann!

Great to read about your blog. Wow, you have lots of children and grandchildren. You are very blessed!

I’m also Catholic, and not just a Catholic who says she’s Catholic either. By the time, I’m your age, I bet I’ll have just as many children, if not more. We have a BIG family–both my grandparents had 7 children. My maternal grandmother had 2 or 3 miscarriages when she was in her 40s. And my great-aunt gave birth to 17 children!

Congrats on your 32 years of marriage!
