Looking through Rose-colored Glasses

(Warning: fiction)

I awoke refreshed a few minutes before the alarm went off. I had no desire to stay in bed, so I rose to a peaceful house.  In the kitchen I encountered the counter, clean and free of clutter. The coffee was made, the floor did not have crumbs which stuck to my feet, the sun shone through  crystal window panes.

With coffee in hand, I settled at the kitchen table and opened my Daily Missal.  The green ribbon was in the right place. Peacefully and with great attention, I  soaked up the readings of the day from Holy Scripture. My surroundings and my feeling of peace allowed me to be with the Lord as I read and reflected.

As I finished first one child awoke and came to the kitchen.  She had a pleasant look on her face, like she, too, was rested and feeling like facing the day. As each of the other two children arose, they tended to their responsibilities of getting a healthy breakfast and helping one another. Conversation flowed like milk and honey at the breakfast table.

Each child returned to his  bedroom and got dressed, they came forth again to start their homeschool work. When I emerged from my room after showering (long, hot and peaceful) I found Active Girl sitting on the couch with a book,  (no she was not tearing the pages) and Teenage Son and Daughter busily engrossed in their vocabulary lesson.

The morning progressed with children sharing, taking turns learning with Mom, offering what they could do to help, and in general, all of us loving the homeschooling life. Father arrived home for lunch and lo, what did he find, but 3 students who had completed all their work and a mother who was ever so glad to be with her children every moment of the day.

The rest of the day could only get better - can you imagine, a beautiful weather day and no schoolwork left to do. (Somehow the housework got done too)

So, it’s too bad all days are not like that.  But do read another day, to see what an opposite kind of day is like.

Peace to all,

Ann
