Go to Sleep Songs

Do you sing your child to sleep? What songs have become favorites?

We have been singing Immaculate Mary, Amazing Grace and America the Beautiful  for years.  Beginning at an early age, bu 3 or 4 the kids know the words and sign along.  Another set of songs we sing, both at bedtime and in the van on long rides are folk songs. Comin’ Round the Mountain’ is an old time favorite. Most Wonderful Mate sings to the kids, and has really perfected his version of Comin’ Round the Mountain. Sometimes we sing together.  To my untuned ear, we sound pretty good — I hope the kids think so too.

Over the years, Patriotic Songs have been a favorite.  This Land is Your Land, God Bless America, and all the traditional favorites could be heard as we were driving along.  And heard as we were tucking the kids in at night.

Active Daughter has her favorites, and Teenage Son remembers Coming Round the Mountain followed by his nightly question, “Are you working tomorrow, Dad?”  He told me the other day, he remembers that the answer was always “yes” except for 2 nights a week - Friday and Saturday.

So with the “old red rooster” and “we’ll all have chicken’ and dumplin’s” on their minds, off the kids drift to sleep. Into sweet dreams graced by Our Holy Mother Mary.

Good night…
