A BIG Piece of Paper

Active Daughter’s  Painting on Brown Paper

Lately, as I have been very busy with holiday preparations,  I have found something that really keeps Active Daughter  busy.  A BIG piece of paper.  The first time it was a huge brown paper bag, cut open on the seams.  It nearly covered the kitchen table, so I saw it as a great opportunity to get out the paints.  She loved it.  As the area in front of her was painted,  I simply turned the large sheet of paper so a “clean” area was in front of her. Away she went with the paintbrush.

When the project was finished, (and it occupied her for over an hour, some sort of record) we let it dry then used it for Christmas wrapping paper.  It was a double (or triple) victory - time, creativity, and useful paper.

In the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, I pulled out some flat sheets of blank newsprint that had been used to separate frames to keep them from getting dinged up.  Active Daughter got out the 64- box of Crayola Crayons she had gotten for Christmas. She proceeded to make a picture of each member of our family — I didn’t even know she could draw people (blush). On the next piece of paper she made her big sister’s family with all her nephews (4) and a baby in Big Sister’s belly (she’s due April 1)

Her pictures were a big hit at the New Year’s celebration, I re-learned the great entertainment value of a BIG piece of paper, and Active Daughter created to her heart’s content.

Happy New Year.

Ann
