When a child is little, it is nice for her to get in the habit of giving gifts to people on special occasions.  But to have a parent go to the store and buy something, wrap it, then give it, cancels the idea of gift giving and generosity by the child.

Here’s another idea:  Mom takes a photo with digital camera or cell phone.  (Child sitting on a big pile of books and “reading” a book, is a cute pose.) Using Microsoft word, the photos, and some nice text, parent and child sit at the computer and create a book mark.  They can be made several to the page, child’s picture on top and custom greeting (having to do with reading or not) for each family member below. A friendly signature at the end makes it complete.

The first year we made these Active Daughter “drew” a little scribbled picture on the back, to add a personal touch.

After cutting the page of several bookmarks apart,  we laminated them and punched a hole at the top for a ribbon.

Complete! One of the nice things about a bookmark is that the recipient doesn’t need any space to store it, and it is very useful.

What a cute idea! When I was a kid, I always wanted to give people really great presents, but of course, I didn’t have the money. A bookmark like this is a great idea. :-)
