How do I love thee, oh “SnowDay”

This image was taken from the following website:

and it is a photograph of a real snowflake,
taken by Vermont’s “Snowflake” Bentley.
When our New Hampshire town gets buried in snow, or just a few inches of the really messy, bad drivin’ stuff, there is the chance that school will be cancelled. Well, today is one of those days!
Last evening, as we went to bed, with no precipitation yet started, we knew what was predicted. This morning as Most Wonderful Mate kissed me good-bye as he left for work, he told me that all the area schools were closed. Oh, how wonderful. I turned off my alarm, rolled back over and went to sleep!
Being homeschoolers, we can decide for ourselves, of course, so when we finally got up and found out ski lessons were also cancelled due to bad driving, we paced ourselves and headed into a couple of school books. By noon, I felt we had done enough (enough, that is to make up for some of our other slacking-off days) and we went on with other activities.
Why do I love, thee so, snowday? Because a snow day, a day off from school and all other ventures out of the house, is a Gift. It is a day no one else can schedule for you. It is a day we can take some of that much needed time that otherwise is so booked. It is a day when any accomplishment is an achievment. In some ways it is a day off from life. Plain and simple, it is a Gift.
