The Tale of the Three Trees     retold by Angela Elwell Hunt

Free Craft Project for Little Folks

A great project for Sunday School, CCD, Easter, Advent, Christmas,

Above you will find a picture of the craft project we made for our elementary school class.

Instructions:  (This project and instruction for this project are Copyrighted (C) by Ann St. Martin Stout. Please use freely, but do not publish or assume credit for.)

  1. For each child prepare a sheet of paper or card stock with 3 little windows (”doors”) cut in it. Cut only 3 edges, the final edge is the “hinge” side. The windows on the sample above are 2″ square. We used an X-acto knife and a metal edged ruler.
  2. For each child prepare a set of three images: one manger, one cross, one boat. The paper should be cut larger than the window, as it will be applied to the back, in order to show through. Simple line drawings, or clip art from the Internet can be used.
  3. Have each child draw and color three trees, making sure each tree incorporates one of the windows.  Background, foreground and details like flowers or birds can also be added.
  4. Using a glue stick, the child can apply glue on the back of the large picture of the trees  around each of the windows.  Each small slip of paper  containing a picture is then adhered to the glue in a position so that the small image shows through the window on the front.
  5. You may add a quote which has been printed beforehand.  Here is an example: “God’s ways are always best!  Trust Him to fulfill your dreams in His perfect way!”
