Still Life Photography
Earlier in the year, I decided I wanted to exhibit my artwork. I do many, many crafts with varying degrees of quality and success. I invited a colleague whose judgement I trust to take a look at all the stuff I make and do. She was very interested in seeing my work and spent over 2 hours looking at the various samples of work in my studio. I was pleased with the many comments, encouragement and critique she gave me on my Mixed Media items. Lastly, we moved across the hall to the den where I had displayed my photography for her examination.
To my pleasure, she was impressed and pleased, particularly with my still life photography. With her mentorship, I was able to enter two matted and framed pieces in the Juried Selection of regional artists. I was in turn selected to exhibit at the Juried Regional exhibit, and with the submission of my portfolio I was also chosen with 5 other artists to exhibit in the Library Arts Center Selections Exhibit at some time in the upcoming year.
This artist-mentor’s assistance has helped me gain the confidence to submit my work, but she has also helped me fine-tune my photography and how it is presented. Currently, four of my photographic prints, two color and two black and white, are on exhibit at a small newly formed gallery associated with Green Acres Fine Food and Wine http://givemeparkavenue.com/
If I had to name an accomplishment that I am pleased with in 2008, I think this would be it. If you haven’t enjoyed some artwork lately, take the time to do that now!
And from Vincent VanGogh: Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.
